• Barbera-thon w/ Special Guest 1/28

    Later this Fall in October Rain City Wines will be taking a few of you to Piedmonte Italy to discover your true passion for Barolo but while we are there we'll also be visiting the town of Alba of which...these wines are from. My goal for this trip is for you to NOT be a tourist and become one with this region that Nicole and I love so much. Here's what we have cooked up for Saturday and just like Friday...we'll have someone very special to talk to us about the wines.

    2013 Poderi Aldo Conterno "Conca Tre Pile" Barbera d'Alba - Deep ruby red, with dark berry perfumes overlaid with spiced dark plum and cherries. On the palate, it is concentrated and full-bodied, with the classic Barbara acidity lifting and accentuating the red fruit characters. Blackberries, savoury spice and nutmeg blend with ripe plums and supple tannins. The wine has a long, elegant finish.

    2014 Giacomo Borgogno Barbera d'Alba - Intense ruby red color in the glass with a persistent vinous fragrance in the nose almost ethereal, with moderate bottle aging. Dry bitterish flavor on the palate with full body. This delicious wine is ideal with savory dishes, such as pork and sharp cheeses.

    2014 Ettore Germano Barbera d'Alba - Sergio's graceful Barbera is from younger-vine fruit in the Vigna della Madre, the Balau, east of Cerretta, and the Lorenzino sites. Stainless-steel vinification preserves the excellent acid found here and accentuates the natural raspberry and spice flavors. An earthy, mushroom pungency, typical of Serralunga, underscores the brightness, balancing the wine beautifully. Excellent wine for braised veal or chicken, angolotti and risotti. 

    2013 Silvio Grasso Barbera d'Alba - With only 250 cases of this wine made per year...trst me...this wine will show you what Babbera on a tiny scale is all about. Then you'll laugh yourself a case to the car when you see the price.

    2013 G. D. Vajra Barbera d'Alba Superior - A phenominal effort and easilly one of Peidmont's finest Barberas. Made mostly from old vines from the family's top Barolo cru "Bricco delle Viole", the depth and purity is stellar. Crushed wild berries and dark cherry flavors with beautiful aromas of sweet earth and raspberries flow on a full and luscious palate, finishing succulent. Cellar worthy just like good Barolo.
