We will finish out the month of June with a bang! For the first time in Bothell's history we are able to host a COS tasting. COS is legendary when it comes to Sicilian wines but is also known for producing some of the finest Italian wines known to man. What you might not know is that COS is actually the three producers last name initials, one of them being...Occhipinti. That would be the uncle of Arianna Occhipinti wh she learned everything from.
COS wines are also very special when it comes to history and production. All wines are fermented and aged in underground Amphora's. This was an ancient practice of wine making from back in the day...like way back in the day! So here's what I'll be pouring for our last tasting in June.
2014 Cos Rami - The COS Rami’ is pale straw-yellow color. It has great aromas of citrus fruit and hints of minerality on the nose. The wine has excellent depth of flavor and is well balanced with good acidity and a pleasant finish.
2016 COS Frappato - Deep ruby red, high brightness. The nose reveals an olfactory profile of great charm, all played on Mediterranean juniper tones, rust, pink and purple raisin, plum. In the mouth it is velvety, soft, pleasant. A good acidity crosses tasting and accompanies it to a final excellent persistence.
2013 COS Maldafrica - To the nose: a natural smell of wine with cherry perfumes with soil and mineral sensors.
2014 COS Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico - The Cerasuolo di Vittoria is a deep ruby red color. It has aromas of dried cherry, chocolate, smoke, herb and spice. It gains some licorice notes with time in the glass. Soft round fruity medium bodied palate with a good dose of acidity. The wines gives off dried cherry, truffle and smoky flavors in the mouth. Long finish.
2015 COS Nero di Lupo - Ruby red in color with garnet reflexes. On the nose, the wine has beautiful aromas of cherry, mature plum and licorice. The taste has good correspondence with the nose showing those same flavors of cherry and plum. The tannins are very soft and the wine has well-balanced acidity with a persistent finish.
