• Enoteca de Rhan Tasting w/ our NEW Intern Amy on 9/22

    Friday from 4-7pm
Oh did I confuse a few of you? You read that correctly. Today I started working with our new Intern Amy and she was in while Owen dropped by with Baroness Barbara de Rhan of Enoteca de Rhan. With over 50 growers and 300 plus wines, EDR is considered to have one of the most diverse and distinctive portfolios in all of Italy. It was a great introduction for Amy to see, taste and talk with the Baroness about the wines she was tasting us on.

So lets get this party rolling shall we?

2014 Tenuta Le Velette Orvieto Classico - The dynamic Tenuta le Velette produces one of Orvieto’s most exciting portfolios. Orvieto, one of Umbria’s most renowned white wines, is at its best when made from fruit grown on tufaceous soils and bedrock in the region’s Classico zone. Fashioned from a blend of Trebbiano (30%), Grechetto (30%), Malvasia Bianco (20%), Verdello, and Drupeggio, Le Velette’s Berganorio casts a bright lemon-gold color from the glass, followed by aromas of kiwi, green melon, honeysuckle blossoms, cinnamon, and wet stones. Crisp and brisk on the palate, the Berganorio conveys suggestions of lime zest, green apple, honey, and ground cinnamon. On the finish, the wine is long, dry, and persistent with further suggestions of citrus zest, pinesap, and an appetizing hint of almond skin. Enjoy the Berganorio now and through the coming year served with shellfish, freshwater fish dishes, light poultry preparations, white pasta dishes, sauteed green vegetables, and fresh cheeses.

2015 Strano Vermentino di Gallura Superiore - Mineral white wine from Sardinia, born from vinification and aging in steel tanks. It expresses fruity and floral notes of sage, white flowers and fruits. The taste is smooth and refreshing, with expressive mineral aromas.

2009 Voyat Vino Bianco Secco "La Gazella" - From the smallest wine region in Italy on the border of Switzerland and France comes this gorgeous dry moscato wine named for Voyat's daughter who was an Olympic sprinter for Italy. This beautiful, aged Alpine white is still remarkably fresh and lively with aromas of grass and honey and flavors of ripe apples and pears with mouthwatering acidity and an herbaceous backbone. **Amy fell in love with this wine and we all laughed...she is so hooked!

2015 Cornacchia Montepulciano d'Abruzzo - Made with organic grapes, this straightforward wine opens with plum aromas and a whiff of cinnamon. The round easygoing palate doles out black cherry and a hint of cake spice accompanied by mellow tannins.

2011 Cornacchia Montepulciano d'Abruzzo "Vigne le Coste" - Aromas of sour cherry, raisin, herb and a hint of scorched earth lead the nose. On the straightforward rather lean palate, ground pepper accents dried cranberry and pomegranate alongside lithe tannins.

    Get ready people!!!
