• Fathers Day Chateauneuf-du-Pape Tasting on 6/16

    Tasting on Saturday from 3-7pm

The final tasting for dad will be from the region of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. I wanted something that would go great with all those huge cuts of beef he'll be grilling up...on our day. These wines are all about those galets. These stones doing something pretty amazing...they keep the soil moist, keep the vines warm at night and it's also how the Rolling Stones got their name. Yup.

Here are the wines your old man will need with that brisket or that pork shoulder.

2016 Domaine du Pegau Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Cuvee Reservee - 60% Clairette, 20% Grenache blanc, 10% Roussanne and10% Bourboulenc. Aromas of peach, apple and nectarine, with light floral notes and a touch of minerality. Clean, crisp and fresh, with great acidity.

2015 Comte de Lauze Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc - The nose is aromatic and offers freshness and a fine concentration. It reveals notes of ripe lemon, Granny Smith apple and crushed mirabelle combined with slight notes of quince, pear, flowers, racy minerality as well as subtle touches of oak and almond. The palate is fruity, well-balanced and offers a nice mineral frame, a fine acidity, a good volume, a good structure, gourmandise, a fine fat as well as a fine tension. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of ripe Williams pear, apple and quince combined with subtle touches of tangerine zest as well as hints of honey, butter, racy minerality and discreet woody touches.

2014 Domaine de Fountain Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuvee Empire - The 2014 Cuvée Réservée begins with wonderful nuances of blackberries, plums, spices, smoked meats, pepper and wild herbs, which all come together beautifully in the glass. On the palate this is medium-bodied and beautifully structured with fine, silky tannins and excellent overall balance and finesse backed by lovely underlying acidity. The finish remains persistent, as it lingers with pretty red fruits and spices. Overall, this is a lovely Cuvée Réservée, which will benefit from some short-term cellaring, and continue to evolve gracefully over the course of the next decade.

2014 Comte de Lauze Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge - Fruity and floral, the forward, full-bodied 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape comes from the Cabrières lieu-dit and is a blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah. There’s a touch of astringency on the fine grained finish but nothing that should stop consumers from knocking this back in its first ten years of life.

2015 Telegramme Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge - Brilliant red. A lively, spice-tinged nose displays zesty red berry and floral scents, along with hints of succulent herbs and white pepper. Taut red currant and strawberry flavors open up and deepen slowly with air, showing very good clarity and picking up a sweet lavender pastille quality. Shows appealing finesse and nerve, with no rough edges, and finishes on a resonating floral note with sneaky, harmonious tannins.

There it is...go pick up some cuts now people!!!
