• Spanish Fly Tasting

    Saturday 26th at 3pm
I think it's time from some fly Spanish wines. I've been putting together this tasting for a month now. I wanted to show the different sides of Spanish wines and I'm pretty sure the regions I've picked...really show off what solid/daily drinkers have to offer.

2010 La Rioja Alta Vina Alberdi Reserva, Rioja - The 2010 Viña Alberdi is a Tempranillo blend from different vineyards from what they consider an extraordinary vintage. This wine is matured in American oak barrels built by their own coopers, the first year in new barrels and the second one in third-year barrels with four manual rackings. This is the younger of their wines, with even some red berry aromas and spicy oak, quite harmonious. The palate is lively, balanced and polished, with tasty flavors and bright acidity. Delicious.

2012 Vara Y Pulgar Tintilla, Cadiz - Bright purple. Blackberry, minerals, dark chocolate and a hint of licorice on the fragrant nose. Densely packed and lively, offering concentrated, gently sweet flavors of red and dark berries, violet, cracked pepper and bitter chocolate. Finishes long and aromatic, with a firm tannic spine and strong mineral lift. This wine is made from young tintilla vines planted on the chalky "albariza" soil of the region, which is home to Jerez.

2014 Raul Perez Mencia 'Gus', Bierzo - It shows some notes of licorice, red candy flavors with echoes of raspberry leaf and wild berries. The medium-bodied palate offers refined tannins and good freshness. Only 2000 cases produced.

2013 Bodegas La Cartuja, Priorat - Bright violet color. A highly perfumed bouquet evokes dark berries and fresh flowers, with a spicy nuance gaining strength with air. Juicy and energetic on the palate, showing a silky texture and juicy blackberry and cassis flavors. The smooth, smoky finish shows very good clarity and a whisper of fine-grained tannins.

2010 Bodegas Juan Carlos Sancha Peña El Gato Maturana Tinto, Rioja - Gato is flat out full bodied, dense, heavy and dark. A deep reddish purple in color, the nose is a powerful blend of smoke, solid fruit featuring black cherries, and a touch of lavendar to send your palate soaring. Can go 10 in the bottle! Basically, if size matters to you, this wine is big. You're gonna love it.
