  • Boeri Tasting in Remembrance of Dr. Ness On Feb 25th

    February 25th from 3-7pm
The start of the year brought tears to our little wine shop.  I received an email that one of our dearest customers had passed away.  A few day's before the passing of Dr. Ness,  Earl and I were having coffee and discussing the upcoming trip to Piedmont.  Wine was the focus of most of our conversations but as usual it would often trail off to cars, fishing and sorts.  He would always pull me aside during tastings and ask little question about the wines that nobody else was asking.  It was great for me because I found a friend who would listen to the useless wine information in my head but also because we had so many interest in common.  One wine region that he loved was Piedmont but like Nicole and I, he was a fan of the one of the wineries we'll be spending lots of time with while we are there...Boeri!
This tasting is about the wines of Boeri but it's also a way for Earl's friends and family to talk and remember the guy who was known to so many as an..."all around nice guy!"  He was.
Here's what we'll be tasting for Dr. Earl Ness...
    2015 Boeri Tube Vino Bianco
    2014 Boeri Tube Barbera DOC
2009 Boeri Porlpa Barbera d'Asti Superiore DOCG
2004 Boeri Parbolo Monferrato Rosso DOC
2009 Boeri Martinette Barbera d'Asti DCOG
2007 Boeri 'Noto' Monferrato Rosso DOC
2014 Boeri Ribota Moscato d'Asti DOCG
I'd love for everyone to come down, meet Earl's family, taste some awesome wines and learn a little about the Piedmonte trip that upcoming in October.  Marcia our importer will be her to talk about the wines and discuss what we'll be doing on the trip to Italy.  Earl may be walking the vineyards of Piedmonte already but when we all get there...there will be a glass of Barolo at the end of the table...that's Earl's glass!
    We'll see you here.

  • Piedmont Tour Part 1 w/ Guest...2/4

February Saturday the 4th at 3pm
In October Rain City Wines will be shutting it's doors and heading to Piedmont for a week or so. 12 lucky couples or people wll be joining us on a guided trip of Piedmont. This is a way for us to show people the behind the scenes of owning and operating a wine shop. Marcia with Boutique Imports and Niche Tours will be there to walk us around and take us on this amazing trip.

The wines we'll be tasting are just a few of some of the producers we'll be stopping by to meet, chat and taste with. Marcia will be on hand to talk about the upcoing trip and to answer any questions about the trip and or wines.

Get ready to have some fun. Best part is...we picked these wines out to go with that upcoming game on Sunday.

Boeri Bag & Tube Red & White - This is becoming a staple in many of our customers homes and ours. The Barbera goes with almost anything while the white is by far one of the easiest daily drinking whites we've ever had. 3.0L bag/tube of wine for $34! Once open the wines will last for several months...if you don't drink it by then!

2014 Piero Gatti Brachetto d'Asti - As Nicole calls kool-aid. You'll always want to have a bottle or two on hand of this stuff. Has a very light fizz with just the perfect amount of sugar residual.

2014 La Ca' Nova Dolcetto - The mid-afternoon drink that goes great with lite bit bites. Maybe some cured meat and cheese while you talk among friends?

2011 Sasa Jazz Barbaresco - If Barolo is the King then Barbaresco is the Queen! Elegant, regal and simply lovely!

2010 Sasa Stradanova Barolo - The king has spoken! You need to taste this to believe it!

All these wines plus a few pcitures of what you'll be seeing in October...I think you get the idea!
  • Barbera-thon w/ Special Guest 1/28

    January 28th at 3pm
Later this Fall in October Rain City Wines will be taking a few of you to Piedmonte Italy to discover your true passion for Barolo but while we are there we'll also be visiting the town of Alba of which...these wines are from. My goal for this trip is for you to NOT be a tourist and become one with this region that Nicole and I love so much. Here's what we have cooked up for Saturday and just like Friday...we'll have someone very special to talk to us about the wines.

2013 Poderi Aldo Conterno "Conca Tre Pile" Barbera d'Alba - Deep ruby red, with dark berry perfumes overlaid with spiced dark plum and cherries. On the palate, it is concentrated and full-bodied, with the classic Barbara acidity lifting and accentuating the red fruit characters. Blackberries, savoury spice and nutmeg blend with ripe plums and supple tannins. The wine has a long, elegant finish.

2014 Giacomo Borgogno Barbera d'Alba - Intense ruby red color in the glass with a persistent vinous fragrance in the nose almost ethereal, with moderate bottle aging. Dry bitterish flavor on the palate with full body. This delicious wine is ideal with savory dishes, such as pork and sharp cheeses.

2014 Ettore Germano Barbera d'Alba - Sergio's graceful Barbera is from younger-vine fruit in the Vigna della Madre, the Balau, east of Cerretta, and the Lorenzino sites. Stainless-steel vinification preserves the excellent acid found here and accentuates the natural raspberry and spice flavors. An earthy, mushroom pungency, typical of Serralunga, underscores the brightness, balancing the wine beautifully. Excellent wine for braised veal or chicken, angolotti and risotti.

2013 Silvio Grasso Barbera d'Alba - With only 250 cases of this wine made per year...trst me...this wine will show you what Babbera on a tiny scale is all about. Then you'll laugh yourself a case to the car when you see the price.

2013 G. D. Vajra Barbera d'Alba Superior - A phenominal effort and easilly one of Peidmont's finest Barberas. Made mostly from old vines from the family's top Barolo cru "Bricco delle Viole", the depth and purity is stellar. Crushed wild berries and dark cherry flavors with beautiful aromas of sweet earth and raspberries flow on a full and luscious palate, finishing succulent. Cellar worthy just like good Barolo.

    And it's like that yo!
