This wine from Arianna is so rare in these parts, I've actually debated with my wife that we should just take them home so we can have them in the cellar but after several minutes of debate...she won. Only three of the beauties showed up. The blend is 50-50 Nero d’Avola and Frappato, and the wine is subject to four long years of barrel evolution that has enhanced background tones of spice and tobacco. Grotte Alte shows a dark, inky color with chewy extract and powerful tones of dried raspberry fruit and blackcurrants. It offers a solid sense of structure thanks to the mild tannins and generous fruit build-up it delivers to the palate. Cerasuolo di Vittoria is usually engineered for near-term drinking, but this sample shows the potential for extra bottle aging.
