Paul Pernot is best known for his spectacular, terroir-driven whites, but in great vintages he produces this equally great red wine from Volnay. True to the village's reputation, it's an utterly charming, complex, and refined wine straight out of the gate with delicate raspberry and strawberry fruits woven with rose petal, dry calcereous clay earth, and herbs. As good as it is now, try to hold for a few years as the wine will evolve into something even subtler and more delicate over the next 15 years.
