This vintage from Jean Paul and Charly Thévenet tastes as classic as any of the recent releases. Earthy and old-school, it excels in the role of the quintessential, naturally made Morgon of our dreams. For devotees, this might be the vintage you buy in bulk to cellar a few for later. Cru Beaujolais from a tiny plot of historic vines - all over 100 years old (the 2021 marks the first vintage that Thevenet has bottled this parcel separately as a VV release - past vintages blended it with 70 year old vines, those are released as the Tradition) planted in decomposed granite and sand. The wines are aged on fine lees in 5-7 year-old oak Burgundian barrels for 6-8 months. Haunting perfume, silky texture, velvety & complex Gamay. Rustic and spicy. Cherries, red currants, pomegranate, stony minerality, subtle grip, fantastic tension. Delicious now or can be cellared for 5+ years.
