Club Wines

  • September 2016 Wine Club Wines

Well, well, well...we are back.  I didn't charge anyone for their wine clubs wines for the month of August since we were not open and I didn't have a place to keep wines cool and safe until the end of the month when I received our wine coolers.  The shop is up and running again so wine clubs are back in full swing.

    Daily Drinking Red Wine Club

2014 Chateau de Gaudou Cahors - The simplest and fruitiest of the Cahors made at Gaudou, this is still a structured wine that has some firm, very young tannins that need to round out. Plenty of fruity, fresh black-currant flavor is cut by crisp acidity.

2014 Domaine Petroni Corse Red - Domaine Petronis 100 hectares of vines lie close to Lake Diana on the eastern coast of Corsica, and the property that has been around since 1885 is now run by the Ramazotti brothers who took over in 2008. This wine is 50% Niellucciu, 35% Syrah, 15% Grenache, and it's kind of a juicy, purple monster of a wine, especially for Corsica!

2014 Donna Laura 'Ali' Tuscan Red - This wine has aromas of juicy red berry fruit. Medium-bodied and soft on the palate, with balanced acidity and ripe tannins.  Delicious with pastas and grilled meats, yet also very drinkable without food.

2009 La Maialina Chianti Classico - The 2009 Chianti Classico emerges from the glass with layers of dark fruit, herbs, tobacco and sweet spices. It possesses striking mid-palate juiciness all the way through to the layered, focused finish. This is another beautiful wine from La Maialina. $16

2008 La Maialina Chianti Classico Riserva - Inviting aromas of black cherries, plums and sweet spices, with notes of roses and black pepper, elegant and lush on the palate with ripe round tannins and a long finish. $21

2011 Seghesio Barolo - The 2011 Seghesio Barolo opens up with pretty aromas of red fruits and strawberries followed by licorice, wet stones which all take shape in the glass. It possesses a beautiful silky, polished texture with gorgeous balance backed by juicy red fruits which turn dry and grip on the finish. Accessible now, bur should evolve nicely over the next decade. $38

  • Your August Club Wines

Due to the fact that the shop is still closed and we are running around trying to rebuild and make sure the city is happy with all the improvements, I will not be charging anyone's credit cards until will can get into the shop and make sure the wines can be stored at the correct temps.

We expect to open the shop w/in the next few weeks but rumor has it that it may be sooner than that...this means I better finish the painting of the house!

  • July Daily Drinker Wine Club Wines

This month you are in for a treat.
2012 Herdade do Esporao Monte Velho - The 2012 Monte Velho red is a blend of 40% Aragonez, 35% Trincadeira, 20% Touriga Nacional, and 5% Syrah, tank fermented and then aged in a mixture of tank and American oak for six months. It comes in at 14% alcohol. It was sourced from vines averaging 15 years of age. In its youth, when things are sometimes jumbled, it has some earthy notes, hints of herbs and touches of smoke, but this is a pretty consistent value that looks quite good this year. Young, fresh fruit is underneath. It has fine solidity in the mid-palate for its level. Its modest structure and drink-me-now demeanor are appropriate to its goals. It became quite tasty and more interesting as it aired out, too. $13
2015 Lucchetti Lacrima di Morro d' Alba - Deep violet in color, the wine explodes out of the glass with an extremely intense and heady bouquet of exotic Eastern flowers and wild strawberries and pomegranate. Once past the intriguing nose, the palate features wild berry compote, hints of roses, violets and geranium, a note of pink peppercorn and finishes very fresh with limited tannins. An utterly unique experience featuring outstanding balance and concentration. $13
2013 San Felice Chianti Classico - A sparkling ruby, this wine offers complex, long-lingering aromas, with nuances of dark cherry, raspberry and sweet violets. Appealingly dry and medium-bodied, it is smooth, rounded, and well balanced. Overall, its judicious structure, elegant fragrances and savory palate make this a delectable experience. $15
And yet I still only charged you all $39
  • June Daily Drinking Club Wines

Coffee cup not included in wine club selections.  Wines are though...
This month I have some real daily's that might make you cry inside.  The sun is out, meat is on the grill (or tofu) so it's time to get serious now!!!
2014 Monte Tondo CorvinaMonte Tondo’s Corvina is redolent of pie cherries, Seville orange peel, pepper and crushed stones. Brisk and bracing on the palate, the wine shows appetizing bitter cherry skin, white pepper and citrus peel notes in a bright, vibrant Valpolicella-esque package. Bitter medicinal herbs and fine tannins work alongside brisk acidity to make this one of the most versatile and table-ready wines.  Stay away from shellfish with this wine.
2011 Fabla Old Vines Grenache - With vines that are over 40 years old this is one great deal of a wine.  This is why it makes the 'daily drinker' club.  Strong strawberry notes and a long finish.  Pretty meaty with some sweet tannins.  All sorts of grilled and red meat will pair up nicely with this wine plus try it out with a nice stew.  I know stews are not in season but you are reading this from a guy who drinks rosé in the dead of winter.
2007 Cassa de Iliana Tradicion45% Bobal, 30% Tempranillo, 25% Syrah.
Casa de Illana Tradicion is a flavorful and traditional wine with great structure and body. It is brilliant and clean with an intense cherry-garnet coloring. In the nose it boasts ripe blackberry, cherry, violets and licorice with mineral and fine wood notes. The first impression of this wine on the palate gives creamy earthy nuances and sweet tannins from the noble oak followed by a medium to long finish. This wine would pair excellently with pork, chicken and other grilled meats. Try it with a lamb-burger or even grilled salmon, it will surprise you!
I figured since most of you daily white wine people like rosé as well...
  • June Red Wine Club Wines

The month of June has been crazy!  Nicole and I are waiting for this kid to come out and you guys are gonna get some crazy-ass good wines!  Check these little betty's out.
2013 Domaine Jean-Michel Dupre Morgon Beaujolais Vigne de 1935 - As of this year...this wine have vines that were planted in 1935...aka...81 year old vines from the Morgon Cru.  Needless to day...this is not a little wine.  Try it out with some grilled red meat or burgers.  Not all Beaujolais are light and fluffy with that carbonic nose and palate.  Some, like this one are full-bodied, dark and earthy.  Give it some time to decant.  If you treat her like a queen...she'll treat you like a king. ($14)
2014 Tenuta La Favola Fravolato - This 100% Frappato from Sicily is truly a work of art.  Some of you tried the last vintage we had in the shop and one of you decided that it was good enough for a wedding of over 100 people.  One of the really cool things about this winery...it's ran totally off the grid!  The wine id dedicated to his daughters (don't ask).  Give the wine a slight chill and drink it young (should not be a problem...we're Americans).  Light to medium bodied yet still has a little power in the middle to make you sit back in your seat.  This wine is about elegance and food pairing.  Try it with several dishes and see what fits you best. ($19)
2007 Iuli Barabba Barbera del Monferrato Superiore - The word 'Barabba' is a play on words for the grape they use in this wine...Barbera.  The only produce 400 cases of this gem per year so when you see it...grab it.  This is a full-belly sit-down kinda wine.  It needs something that has been killed with a spear and cooked over an open flame.  You might even want to grunt really loud to thank the gods for giving you the meat and wine you'll be consuming shortly.  It does need some time to open up so don't pushy and just go right with work on her.  Just like when you went on the first date...you need to wine and dine her before...well you know. ($42)
