Family run winery for nearly 200 years.  Wohlmuth's Styrian hillside vines sit markedly higher than those of their STK peers, ranking among the very steepest vineyards on earth.   Austria’s most dangerous downhill ski racing slope, aptly named "Strief," has an inclination of 85%. Wohlmuth’s Ried Edelschuh sports an inclination of 90%. Wohlmuth is a small winery but requires 95 full-time vineyard workers to work the steep vertical slopes!

From a steep (up to 90% grade), south-facing cru on red and dark slate and at altitudes between 460 and 540 meters above sea level, the 2023 Ried Edelschuh GSTK Sauvignon Blanc opens discreetly in terms of aromas, but it's true to the soils and shows spicy/herbal notes of crushed slate and salts intermingled with lemon rind notes, whereas the bright stone fruit aromas start to shine only slowly. Savory, enormously fresh thanks to vibrant citrus fruit flavors and a pure and saline finish, This is an enormously fresh (thanks to vibrant citrus fruit flavors), savory, linear, refined and elegant Edelschuh with a long, well balanced, energetic and salivating finish.  13% ABV
