Calabretta Nerello Mascalese Vigne Vecchie 2016

98% Nerello Mascalese & 2% Nerello Cappuccio

From a seven hectare vineyard on the slopes of Mount Etna in the Calderara Sottana. Average age of the vineyards is between 60-80 years with some plants over 100 years old, some ungrafted -- on original root stock.  Aged in large Slavonian oak casks (50-70HL) for about seven years.  Deep ruby red with a delicate garnet rim, showing its extended aging.  Aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, dried violets, and rose petals, layered with tobacco, sweet herbs, tar, and smoky volcanic minerality. Medium-to-full-bodied with bright, crisp acidity, fine-grained silky tannins, and flavors of baked red plums, black tea, and earth.  14.5% ABV
