 Walter Massa, in the Colli Tortonesi, or Tortona Hills, of southeast Piemonte is the universally-acknowledged Maestro of Timorasso – the man who rescued the variety from extinction in the 1970s and then, through relentless experimentation and effort in the vineyard and in the cellar, brought it to prominence as one of the great white wines of Italy. Vigneti Massa Piccolo Derthona, a single-variety wine made with the Timorasso star variety grown on mostly limestone soil lying 300 metres above sea level in the Tortona hills (in Piedmont).   At sight it has a straw yellow color with golden reflections. Fresh notes of mandarin and lemon stand out on the nose, with delicate hints of aromatic herbs on a savory base. At the sip it reveals freshness, softness and strong minerality. In its youthful guise, Timorasso can be paired with land or sea risotto, even with shellfish, with white meat main courses. The typical combination is with medium-aged Montebore cheese.  12.5% ABV
